Welcome to Common Thread
CREATING OPPORTUNITIES - BUILDING COMMUNITIES - THROUGH PERFORMING ARTS
COMMON THREAD is a journey of discovery for this community's youth. It engages them in a process of invention & expression to develop a multi-media performance project exploring their responses to the Common Threads of human experience.
Each year adolescent students of the Gateway Learning Community schools join with arts teachers, local artists & related industry professionals to create a unique & original multi-media performance project.
The Gateway Learning Community comprises: 7 State Schools in Brisbane's Inner South East

COMMON THREAD is about teenagers, by teenagers for teenagers, but takes them beyond their own experience to discover and explore common threads across social, cultural and age barriers. It enables them to find a voice for their discoveries to share with and challenge the wider community.

“It was a truly special moment seeing the joy and emotion of the kids after the show.”
“The co-artistry and dedication of the teachers and industry support team is evident in the way the students confidently own this whole process. The young peoples’ voices are heard through arts and that's what makes this an important and authentic community celebration.
Congratulations to the school administrations and department heads for supporting this process and thank-you for inviting me to share with such a strong, vibrant and creative community.”
